Gahan Beacon Blonde Ale presents Logan Richard LIVE at Penzie’s Bistro (Shaw’s Hotel) June 30th!
About this event
Logan Richard may just be the Canadian East Coast’s answer to John Mayer, Bahamas, Theo Katzman and Colin James all rolled into one.
Spellbinding R&B grooves, pop hooks galore, a smooth voice that wraps you in, and tasteful blues-tinged guitar licks that make you realize why many are calling him one of the best up-and-coming young guitarists in the country: This is what you get upon catching one of Logan Richard’s live shows, or upon a spin of his recent self-titled EP.
With hundreds of thousands of listens on Spotify and airplay on CBC Radio 2, the East Coast Music Award nominee has garnered a dedicated legion of fans even at this early stage in his career, as his soundscape mix of pop, blues, R&B and indie rock pinpoints a creatively-crafted sound while it spans the genres.
Honing his frontman skills from a young age, belting blues music on stages for outdoor summer café diners on the streets of Charlottetown, PEI, Richard asserted himself on the Maritime blues music scene early on in his life. Continuing his steep career trajectory ascent since then, Richard released his successful debut EP called “The Split” in 2017, which escalated him to a headline slot at the TD Jazz/Blues Festival, and was nominated for Blues Recording of the Year at the 2019 ECMA’s.
The new self-titled eight-song EP produced by Adam Gallant toys with the roller coaster ride of being in love – falling out of it, not knowing how to let it go – with one of the highlight tracks being a co-write with Chris Kirby and Dave Sampson called Girlfriend Material.
As he has already shared the stage with many great Canadian acts, most recently having opened for Marianas Trench, Logan Richard stands poised to strongly stride onward along the musical road that lies ahead for him. But, he also has one other thing going for him, which, if you get the lucky chance to talk to the guy, you’ll come to know it: He may also just be one of the nicest dudes you’ll ever meet.

Gahan Beacon Blonde Ale presents Dan Doiron LIVE at Penzie’s Bistro (Shaw’s Hotel) July 10th!
About this event
Friends say they don’t recognize him without a guitar strapped on, as Dan Doiron has been addicted to the raw energy of the guitar since he formed his first band at age 13 in Port Hood, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. An inventive guitarist, Dan fuses potent guitar riffs and grooves with unique lyrics reflecting his views on everyday life, ensuring an emotional, thrilling musical ride at every band and solo show. He’s profoundly committed to the music, crafting his own style that draws upon over forty years of his traditional and modern guitar studies and experiences as a musician, songwriter, music educator, (B.MUS.Ed from Dalhousie University with a major in classical guitar), National guitar clinician, (Roland Canada), and recording engineer. Dan is also dedicated to sharing that passion and knowledge and has developed a diverse variety of workshops and clinics that focus on guitar technique and improvisation, songwriting, and incorporating technology to assist musical growth. He’s experienced in presenting to all ages and levels and especially enjoys the opportunity to inspire the next generation of musicians through “Blues in Schools” presentations.
After many years as a sideman, in 2011 Dan stepped out as a solo recording artist, earning both East Coast Music Award and Music Nova Scotia nominations for his debut CD, “Even My Guitar Is In Love With You”. A torrential body of multi award nominated work has followed and in May 2018 he released his fourth album “Livin’ Centre Stage”. This album won the 2018 Music Nova Scotia Award, and has been nominated for a 2019 East Coast Music Award for Blues Album of the Year and “Live Centre Stage,” is also the credo of his award winning 2018 Start Up Canada initiative to inspire others to live their passion regardless of age or stage in life. Find more information about the program at www.LiveCentreStage.com In October 2017 Dan and his band won the East Coast Blues Society’s “Maritimes to Memphis” competition for a second time, awarding them the honour of representing Atlantic Canada once again at the worlds’ largest Blues competition, the International Blues Challenge (IBC) in Memphis.

Gahan Beacon Blonde Ale presents Dave Gunning LIVE at Penzie’s Bistro (Shaw’s Hotel ) July 15th!
About this event
Dave Gunning is best defined as a master craftsman. Over the course of 23 years and 11 earlier albums, the Nova Scotian folk singer/songwriter has diligently sharpened his skills, developing into a poetic storyteller and emotionally convincing singer with few equals.
The fruits of those labours are now vividly on display in his latest collection of songs, Up Against The Sky. The relaxed and intimate feel of the record reflects its method of creation. “I focused a lot on tones and the vibe, rather than strategic parts on this one. Many of these tunes were sung and played at the same time, and that prevented me from being able to go back and edit, forcing a little more honesty.”

Gahan Beacon Blonde Ale presents Christina Martin LIVE at Penzie’s Bistro (Shaw’s Hotel) July 22nd!
About this event
They say the mark of fine songwriting is when a song feels like an old favourite on the first listen. With Christina Martin, you can find an album full of tracks that feel like time-treasured classics, and brand new singles that feel like the song you got married to. Sharp as a razor and shining like silver, her songs blend the relatable and personal, painting portraits of love, loss, tragedy and redemption to soul-stirring effect. Her music dances effortlessly through Pop, Rock, Folk and Americana traditions but stays deftly unchained by any one label, refusing to be pigeon-holed and unafraid to dip into stranger waters. The hooks hook, the hits hit hard, the words stop you dead and the music demands to be heard. Seven albums in with an eighth on the way, Christina Martin’s music is there for anyone who’s felt up against impossible odds, yet refused to lie down.

Gahan Beacon Blonde Ale presents Songwriter’s Circle: Lawrence Maxwell, Nick Doneff, & Shane Pendergast July 27th!
About this event
Shane Pendergast is a folksinger from Tracadie Cross, Prince Edward Island. He learned to play by ear at an early age, immersed in a culture of family kitchen parties. Shane’s connection to Maritime folk music dates back to the efforts of his great-grandparents, preservers of folklore in P.E.I. Shane is carrying the torch forward with his own songs of Maritime lore and life experiences. Shane is known as an old-school troubadour, and “might just become the East Coast’s de facto King of Folk.” (The East). His 2021 album “Second Wind” won Contemporary Roots Album of the Year at the Music PEI Awards.
Nick’s sophomore recording, The Late August Days, is out now! The 9-song album features contributions from Jim Creeggan (Barenaked Ladies), Catherine MacLellan, Mickey Raphael (Willie Nelson), Dave Haskett (Shawn Mendes), Blair Packham (The Jitters), Aaron Comeau (Skydiggers), and more!
Maxwell hails from Prince Edward Island, Canada’s smallest province but one with a rich country music history based in every citizen’s relationship to the land and sea. In fact, before launching his musical career, Maxwell served in the Royal Canadian Navy upon graduating high school where, during downtime aboard his warship, he would compose thoughts that would lay the groundwork for his 2018 debut album Not Your Outlaw.
