Penzie’s Bistro LIVE
Gahan Beacon Blonde Ale presents Scott MacKay w/ very special guest Benny Von LIVE at Penzie’s Bistro (Shaw’s Hotel) August 5th
About this event
From the sounds of slapback echo, twangy Telecasters and swooning pedal steel, it’s clear that Scott MacKay has an affinity for country music of the 1950s and ‘60s. But the singer/songwriter from Charlottetown PEI also has a sharp wit that shines through on the 10 original songs that comprise his latest album Stupid Cupid, a collection that offers a fresh, modern take on classic country.
Benny Von is a singer songwriter from Prince Edward Island. With a passionate voice he weaves tails and tunes together into a myriad of emotions.

About this event
Brandon Howard Roy is a Music PEI-award nominated queer singer-songwriter based in Charlottetown, PEI. Born and raised in Montreal, he took classical piano lessons in his youth and practiced a total of 6 times in 8 years. The piano, however, would become his lifelong songwriting companion, and his first complete song It Kills Me Inside topped the charts in mom and dad’s living room some 14 years ago. With catchy hooks, relatable lyrics and a big voice cultivated from a life in the theatre, Brandon is well poised to make a big splash in the Island music scene and beyond.
Josh Carter is an Island-based musician whose memorable voice and prolific songwriting has helped bands like Coyote and Calm Baretta become two of PEI’s most enthralling rock bands. He has collaborated with electronic music artist Lonely Kid and has garnered Music P.E.I./ECMA award recognition with his respective projects. Branching off as a solo artist, his songwriting emphasizes his contemporary-folk sensibilities with a clear narrative arc and a likeness to early Sufjan Steven’s, Midlake and Elliot Smith.

About this event
Lawrence Maxwell cut his teeth on beer caps, rough waters, and country music. A 2021 ECMA award nominee and Music P.E.I. Award winner, this Prince Edward Island singer-songwriter captures the pain and triumph of everyday life and relates it to the spiritual experience.
Shane Pendergast is a folksinger from Tracadie Cross, Prince Edward Island. He learned to play by ear at an early age, immersed in a culture of family kitchen parties; by age 13 he was performing professionally on stage. Shane’s connection to Maritime folk music dates back to the efforts of his great-grandparents, preservers of folklore in P.E.I. Shane is carrying the torch forward with his own songs, inspired by rural life and Maritime history. At age 22, Shane is known as an “old-school troubadour,” performing upwards of 200 gigs a year. In 2020 he released his debut album, “Place to the Name.” One year later, on March 5th 2021, he released his second album, “Second Wind.”
Island-born and well-travelled, Thyme is a singer/songwriter who distills his experiences of the world around him into songs that resonate with lessons learned. Possessing a distinct guitar style, smooth vocals and uplifting/thoughtful lyrics, Thyme immerses his listeners in music that feels like an old friend. Thyme has been a familiar face around the Island music scene for several years playing as a supporting and session musician for various Island artists. After years on the scene, experimenting and discovering his own sound, it is now time for Justyn to share his music.
